When I asked my six year old son what he wanted as a birthday gift for his upcoming seventh birthday, I was shocked at his response. Without hesitation, he told me that he wanted one of the replicas of the Travelocity gnome and some solar wind chimes. I was astounded at how specific he was, and by the fact that he was so determined and detailed in terms of what he had in mind. I had no idea how he had even heard about the Travelocity gnome, and where the concept of solar wind chimes came into the picture, I still wonder about to this day. Regardless, I needed to honor his unusually specific request, and since a replica of the Travelocity gnome is not an expensive item to acquire, and because I had seen some solar wind chimes at a pawnshop recently for a price I could afford, I realized I could accommodate his request. I found the Travelocity gnome at a nearby retail store, and the solar wind chimes were still at the pawnshop. I was able to give my son his birthday wish. I wrapped the Travelocity gnome carefully, which wasn’t easy, and he loved opening both gifts!
